Joy in a Box
16 November 2016
This Christmas we would love to give the little ones that we work with, a small gift of their own. Most of the children will not receive any gifts and we want to change that. We would love you to help us with our Joy in a Box initiative! Sort of our version of Santa's Shoebox 😉 In each box we would like an item of clothing or an outfit, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a washcloth and soap, small toy and something educational like crayons etc. If you would like to help us spread the love and joy this Christmas, please leave your name in the comments below and we will send the name, age and gender of a little one (or two 😘) so that your box is tailor made. Please let us know what area you live or work in and we will make a plan to collect or you can deliver at our office in Somerset West. We hope to make this a huge success, so thank you!! ❤

July News
08 August 2016
Staff matters:
Operations Manager Amelia Pretorius resigned at the end of June. During the just over a year that Amelia was with us, she achieved what she set out to do - and more. Our best wishes go with her.
Liezl Grobler joined our team on 1 August. We hope she will be very happy with us.

Training:
Four of our therapists went on a week long training course on Autism presented by Autism Western Cape. Although Senecio focuses on children with physical disabilities, many of the centres have children on the Autism spectrum as well, therefor it is important that care givers get guidance in handling these challenging children.

Our two fieldworkers, Sibo and Gugu attended the three week Carer to Carer training course presented by Malemulele Onwards in Johannesburg. Equipped with this knowledge, they are ready and eager to take the Parent Peer Support groups to a new level.

Swaziland Outreach:
During the second week of July, the five therapists, Lynette, Joany, Ashley, Luan and Tanya, as well as Director Annatjie joined hands with Helderberg Uitreik to do a week long Outreach in Swaziland. 46 children received individual attention, and 34 teachers and carers were trained. 4 workshops were presented. It was a very busy but fruitful week. The feedback was very positive, with hopes expressed that this will be the first of many outreaches to come.

Senecio Fun Run 2016
07 June 2016
What started (and ended!) as a misty morning on 29 May 2016 did not damper the moods of the 911 participants that supported this annual event! We were excited when Lourensford gave us permission to host the Fun Run on the estate again, and we are sure that participants were just as excited.

Running, walking and wheeling through the orchards and vineyards through the mist brought about a special atmosphere to the day. Although the mist made preparations a bit difficult on the morning, overall it was a successful event and we again thank all of our sponsors, without whom this day would not have been possible - your generosity and support is truly greatly appreciated!
